WHAT IS CEO STYLE DRESSING FOR WOMEN?

The best CEO outfit is the one you stop thinking about five minutes after leaving home

As a founder and CEO, what I wear is very important for me to succeed in my day. There are mornings where I start my day at the atelier, then fittings with clients, and finish the evening at a networking event. There could be also occasional driving kids to appointments or going to interviews outside the house. My outfit needs to work in every one of those situations without making me think about it.

As women in leadership positions, we are being evaluated every step and appearance is one of the pillars to success that is in our control. I created Marimo to help real women get the professional advice, support and the garments they actually need and deserve in their lives to achieve their goals. So let's talk about how to get there.

Why fit matters more as your career grows

As a petite frame myself, I know the fit can make or break an outfit. When I've had to look for garments from a regular store, it's been a nightmare. But once you're speaking on stage, meeting investors, flying for work, or representing your company, you notice details differently, and so do others. A blazer that feels tight in the shoulders, trousers that need constant adjusting, or sleeves that are slightly too long become distractions. As women, our upper and lower bodies are rarely in the same standard size which makes it hard finding a perfect dress from the store. Worse if you're a petite or extra tall as well. That's why I recommend made-to-measure clothing. You don't need to be thinking "Is my top riding up?" in the middle of a meeting. Your wardrobe should work with you quietly in the background, so you can focus on your work instead of your outfit.

    The CEO style philosophy

For professional outfits to look flawless there are certain key aspects to follow which are also helpful in adding new garments to your wardrobe: First, the fit needs to be flawless. Secondly, the fabric needs to be good quality - soft, breathable and the less wrinkly, the better. Third, the colors need to suit your natural features, but also make you feel comfortable. If your color analyst tells you red is your color but you feel wrong in it, you should wear what makes you confident. And lastly, I look for a classic style that would not go out of fashion, but with some interesting details, so you wouldn't be too boring or invisible.

If everything is in a similar style and color palette, it's also easier to mix and match, and create outfits in the morning. It becomes a capsule wardrobe before you know it. Your wardrobe should support your lifestyle, not become another decision to make in the morning. My CEO style as a creative founder

My personal CEO style in a creative field is probably a bit less traditional than a corporate world excecutive's. Different industries = different expectations. But that doesn't mean anything goes. My outfits still need to communicate confidence, competence, and attention to detail.

    My office outfits

For me, dresses and skirts have always been the foundation of my wardrobe. I simply feel more like myself in them. A well-cut business dress is one complete outfit that looks polished with very little effort. When I want to make it feel more formal, I simply add a tailored blazer. A beautifully tailored blazer is one of the smartest pieces that instantly elevates dresses, skirts, and trousers, and can be worn throughout the year.

The goal is to build a wardrobe that reflects your profession, your personality, and the way you naturally like to dress. When your clothing feels authentic to you, confidence tends to follow.

    Professional style is not one-size-fits-all

A lawyer meeting clients may lean towards more classic tailoring in darker colours. A finance executive might build a wardrobe around impeccably tailored suits, structured dresses, and understated accessories. A management consultant often spends time with corporate clients, where polished separates and versatile blazers become essential.

Many of our own clients work in these fields. Some are executives in international companies, others run successful businesses, work in law, or represent their organisations at conferences and board meetings. Their wardrobes often have one thing in common: they need clothing that helps them feel confident without becoming the focus of their attention. There isn't one perfect CEO wardrobe, only one that supports the work you do every day.
