Our Sustainability Choices

Customer feedback is one of the cornerstones for our newdesigns. By listening to our customers' insights, we shape each new collectionto meet their real needs and desires. Furthermore, our approach to designingcollections at Marimo is similar to creating a capsule wardrobe. Each newcollection is designed to seamlessly complement previous ones, allowing ourcustomers to effortlessly integrate new pieces into their existing wardrobe. This customer-centric approach ensures thoughtful, intentional production, avoiding thoughtless manufacturing.

We take pride in our in-house production at our atelier in Tallinn, where our experienced tailors craft each piece with precision and care. Thisapproach allows us to maintain the highest standards of quality andcraftsmanship while ensuring that our zero-waste and ethical principles areupheld. By keeping production in-house, we ensure every garment aligns with ourethical values. Our knitwear line, produced in Italy, follows these same highstandards, reflecting our commitment to responsible and slow fashion.

We don't create a bunch of garments tohang on racks at our store. Instead, we follow a “made to order” or “on demand”principle. We launch a collection twice a year, crafting one final sample ofeach design and focus on on-demand and made-to-measure production which allowsus to take a personal approach with our clients and accommodate their uniqueneeds. Our made-to-measure services are also available for online purchases, ensuring a perfect fit from the start. A garment tailored to you is one you’ll loveand wear often—minimizing returns and contributing to a more sustainablefashion cycle.

At Marimo, sustainability starts withintention. We offer made-to-measure size option for our clothes. A flawless fitensures comfort, reduces fabric tension, and prolongs the garment's lifespan. The perfect fit also leads to fewer returns, supporting our commitment tosustainability. Our needs-based production principles allow us to offer each customer apersonal approach, considering every detail from their lifestyle and physicalattributes to cut, color and material of each piece. By selectingcolors that complement the client’s skin tone and hair color, we enhance thewearability of each piece. We also encourage clients to selectpieces that seamlessly integrate with their existing wardrobe, promotingmindful consumption and reducing unnecessary waste. Through thoughtful designand bespoke craftsmanship, we create garments that are cherished for years, aligning luxury with sustainability.

The fabrics we use are of the highest quality standards, sourced from some of the most renowned producers in Europe. From one of the oldest Italian silk producers to fine wool and cashmere used to dress royal houses.

Our choice of silk, wool, and cashmere goes beyond luxury—it’s about the benefits these fabrics provide. Silk is naturally hypoallergenic and breathable, while wool and cashmere offer excellent temperature regulation, keeping you comfortable year-round. These natural fibers are also biodegradable, making them far more sustainable than synthetic alternatives.

We select fabrics that are not only luxurious but practical, with minimal creasing chance, so your garments always look pristine. We want to offer a product you can rely on to look good all the time. While we prioritize natural fibers, we also use high-quality polyester when it provides clear benefits. For example, polyester is an excellent choice for pleated garments, as it holds pleats perfectly and resists creasing. When used, our polyester is of the highest quality, ensuring no compromising on the overall elegance and longevity of the garment.

We avoid keeping large stockpiles of every fabric in every color we offer. In our collections we use 1 or 2 main fabrics which we keep in our inventory and for everything else we order only the precise amount needed for each garment, ensuring minimal waste.

Our textiles are sourced from Italy, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and the UK, ensuring we support local craftsmanship and maintain our commitment to sustainability without compromising on quality.

At Marimo, we believe in fair wages and ethical practices. We adhere to a 40-hour workweek schedule and ensure that all our employees are compensated fairly for their work. We communicate to our dear clients that each garment takes some time and attention to detail to be crafted by us. This commitment to fair wages and working hours is a cornerstone of our ethical approach to fashion, guaranteeing that every garment is crafted with care and respect for those who create it.

Beyond fair wages, we prioritize the well-being of our team by fostering a supportive and inspiring work environment. We encourage team bonding through regular brunches and team events, creating a sense of community and shared passion. We believe a happy and healthy team is key to exceptional craftsmanship, which is why we provide financial support for health and wellness to ensure a balanced and fulfilling work environment.

As Marimo continues to grow, we remain dedicated to our core values and committed to leading by example, proving that style, ethics, and sustainability can coexist harmoniously. Together, we can build a more thoughtful, responsible fashion industry for the future.
