MARIMO'S SWEET 16TH BIRTHDAY

Happy birthday to my first baby – Marimo! Today, 16 years ago, I officially started my company. Of course, I had been making custom orders for a long time before that, but the official birth of the company was 19.05.2010. 

It’s the perfect moment to reflect on how far this journey has taken me. When I started Marimo, I could never have imagined that this journey would lead me to meet so many amazing and inspiring women. Back then, the dream of building an international fashion brand felt so far away, and today it feels like a pinch me moment to realize how far we’ve already come. From the wonderful ladies in my team (both past and present) to our incredible clients around the world, and everyone who has supported and encouraged us along the way — mentors, photographers, stylists, make-up artists, models, journalists, friends, family, and acquaintances — I’m endlessly grateful. 

What we’ve been up to recently 

So much has been happening recently. I’ve been to the States four times in the past half a year to build our community there. I’ve been jet lagged and exhausted – April felt nonstop, with three weeks in a row without a single day off. I’ve given many interviews about Marimo: to fashion magazine Flanelle, which was published a couple of weeks ago, to Estonian national TV, and Estonian magazines, all of which will be published in May. 

We also just launched our 31st collection, with campaign photos featuring me as the model. 

The new collection consists of five pieces made from a beautiful white silk jacquard fabric. When one of our team members and I discovered the fabric at the fabric fair last year, I connected with it right away. For a while, I had been thinking about replacing our beloved Leibnitzia dress fabric, which has unfortunately been discontinued, and this beauty felt like the perfect solution to that. In a way, I think it’s good when certain fabrics are discontinued from time to time - it pushes you to move forward and discover new solutions. I love this new fabric, and so far, we’ve only received positive feedback from our customers as well. 

Birthday gift for our clients 

When I first ordered the original white fabric last fall, I immediately ordered it in black as well, knowing how much women love black. We launched the black silk edition last week.

As spring came closer and we were working on the new collection, I felt we needed more color. I already had the idea of developing this silk in rich jewel tones for autumn and winter, but I also couldn’t stop thinking about how beautiful it would look in a soft lavender shade for spring and summer. Light lavender has always been one of our customers’ favorite colors, so I decided we had to include this beloved tone in the new collection. This is how our custom lavender shade was born, together with our fabric partner. And what better way to celebrate Marimo’s birthday than by launching a small lavender silk collection? Today, I’m happy to share that our summer silk pieces are now available in our signature color - a birthday gift from us to our clients. As we turn 16, I feel more inspired than ever to keep creating, evolving, growing, and celebrating women through everything we do. Thank you for being part of this journey.
