BEHIND THE SCENES: CREATING A THOUGHTFUL AND TIMELESS COLLECTION

Research & Fabric Selection
Last month has been incredibly busy. As we work on our new collection and custom projects while also planning for the future, my team and I have had a lot on our plate lately.
At the beginning of February, we visited a fabric fair in Italy in search of the perfect material for a classy trench coat. Yes, you heard that right - we’re starting to create the perfect trench that is both elegant and feminine, designed to be worn with dresses and skirts. We found many beautiful fabric options, as well as other exquisite materials and accessories for our future products. Since the fabric selection in Estonia is quite limited, it was wonderful to visit a fair again and find the perfect new suppliers for us.

Curation & Decision-Making
In a small but quality-driven fashion house like Marimo, everything has to be carefully thought through. Right now, we’re working on the next collection, and deciding which pieces to include was again one of the toughest parts. I always have a long list of ideas - some that have come to me over time, some that our customers have asked for, and also designs that we’ve created as custom orders. But as I don’t want to overproduce and since Marimo is based on a capsule wardrobe approach, I limit each collection to 12 carefully selected pieces. They all need to work together as a harmonious whole - not just in color, but in how they mix and match with each other and with our previous collections. So, while this process involves creativity, it’s also very much about decision-making. I carefully analyze what’s missing from our main product line and try to add those essential pieces to the collection. Once the final selection is made, I create both artistic sketches and technical drawings for our team of tailors and the beginning of the process of bringing my ideas to life begins.
Design that is made to last
Developing the collection takes a lot of effort from the whole team. Many people ask why our pieces are priced the way they are, especially since they appear so minimal and have only a few seams. But it’s not about the seams - it’s about the time, expertise and effort that go into each garment. It includes the designer’s time spent perfecting every detail and sketch, the meticulous work of our constructors and tailors to achieve the perfect cut and fit, the care put into photographing and filming the pieces, and the thoughtfulness behind styling recommendations to help our customers get the most out of each piece. As a small fashion house, we produce in limited quantities, ensuring exceptional attention to detail. That’s what defines our pricing. And as a proud wearer of Marimo, I can say with confidence that these pieces are worth it - they are timeless and last for years when cared for with love.
Same dress, different styling - proving its versatility through the years. Still one of my favorites!
Launch & Personalization
Since our designs are an investment, we focus on made-to-measure to ensure the perfect fit for every client. We’re not just a boutique - we’re a fashion house where you can collaborate with a designer to create your dream wardrobe. I love working closely with our customers, making sure each piece is just right for them.
That’s exactly what keeps me inspired, even though my work often involves a lot of decision-making - knowing that each design brings elegance, confidence, and effortless chic to the women who wear them. As a designer I always think sustainably and below is the perfect example. When our dear client received and invitation to the independence day presidential reception, we didn't create a gown that would sit in her closet after one wear. Instead, we crafted a versatile four-piece ensemble (Clusia top, Gladiolus slip skirt, Galatella cape and Wide crystal belt) that made her shine for the occasion and can be effortlessly mixed and matched for future events.
